Velier Providence 2019 and 2020

Velier Providence 2019
N: definitely a gluey young agricole feel, some new tire rubber, a slightly wintry-piney berry thing like holly or juniper, something sweeter like raisin cookies, mint toothpaste. There’s just the faintest fermenty weirdness here that recalls clairin, which is missing in the 2020…
P: hmm, less complex here, initially. Varnish and modeling glue, quite pastey, a grainy texture in the mouth like toothpaste, a bit of pine or mint. Cooling finish of good length. Not loud, but good, and grows on you. This is nice!

Velier Providence 2020
N: a little cleaner or more neutral, definitely less industrial, some of that same wintry fruitiness but more fruit forward here, maybe a bit less agricoley and more malt-adjacent
P: sweeter, fruitier, a little spice. Oatmeal raisin cookies, an almost grapey berry fruit. That same grainy feeling, toned down. Freshly herbal on the finish. More of a straightforward, fruity and spiced young rum, but feels fairly complete and satisfying, if not memorable. Slightly improved by two small drops of water, but needs no more than that
